Complete freedom to design enclosures which give the best results

Perhaps it isn’t the most predictable of locations for such an occurrence but, over the last few years, in a quiet suburb of Durban something remarkable has been taking shape. Born out of the enthusiasm and drive of South African and British engineers, a new force in high end audio has quietly been building ground-breaking technologies into a range of world-class loudspeakers.

Following his time at B&W where he developed the Matrix system, active speakers and the Nautilus, to name but a few, designer Laurence Dickie began to independently develop a range of drivers with the power handling and efficiency suitable for professional studio monitors. Simultaneously, in the other hemisphere, Philip Guttentag was busy creating a range of high end speaker of his own, but it was in the year 2000 that Robert Trunz, mutual friends and ex-owner of B&W introduced Dic to Philip recognizing that here were two people whose combined talents could lead to something significant. His beliefs were born out and in 2004 Vivid Audio launched two new loudspeakers which would come to typify the work of this new team.

Almost every part of a Vivid loudspeaker is unique and not to be found in any other speaker. No element is taken for granted; innovation and new methods of analysis are used to extract the highest levels of performance from every component.

Today Phillip heads up a team of over twenty staff in the South African manufacturing facility while Dickie leads the R&D team from his laboratory in Brighton, England.

G1 Giya

G1 Giya

Giya is a loudspeaker system like no other.
Evocative of the special spirit of our newest design and proudly symbolic of Vivid Audio’s African roots, the name Giya is derived from a classic form of Zulu dance. Wrapped within Giya’s distinctive shell-like appearance lies an exceptional level of engineering detail and acoustic design sophistication that has become Vivid’s hallmark.

G2 Giya

G2 Giya

In order to scale down the mighty G1 Giya, Vivid had to re-examine the engineering which went into the Giya before they could deduce if this is possible and if it is best approached by considering the bass section in isolation because the size of the finished system is almost wholly dependent on this.

K1

The K1 floor-standing model is the largest of the range which employs the coupled front and back bass driver system and integral stand. Integral to the K1 enclosure is the stand. Made from the same cast carbon fiber reinforced polyester compound as the enclosure, the stand provides an exceptionally stable footing further guaranteed by the use of a total of five spikes mounted around the periphery of the base.

B1

The B-1 is a floor standing model which incorporates four drivers in a 3 & 1/2 way system. B-1 employs a single D50 mid range (patent pending) driver between 900Hz and 4 kHz with the range beyond being handled by a D26 tweeter (patent pending). Below 900Hz the B-1 uses two C125 mid-bass drivers (patent pending), one mounted on the front baffle and one on the rear baffle of the cabinet. These two drivers are internally coupled via a screw tensioning unit for reaction cancelling.

v1.5

v1.5

Whilst being two-way systems the V1 range of loudspeakers maintain the Vivid philosophy of pistonic operation throughout the frequency spectrum. Available in two sizes, the smaller V1s are best suited to mounted near to boundaries such as wall or desktop use while the larger V1.5 pedestal mount will sit quite happily well away from the walls.
