"A very good buy indeed, sharing as it does all the traits of a more expensive cable." Hi-fi World

What is it?

Silver Siren employs the same twisted pair conductor configuration as Cobra 3, the important difference being that the oxygen free copper conductors and shields are silver plated and the polyethylene insulation is replaced with Teflon®. Teflon® not only has a very low dielectric constant but also seems to be a critical factor in achieving a neutral tonal performance from silver plated conductors. Silver is a better conductor than copper and suffers far less from the musically destructive effects of oxidisation as well. Teflon® performs well as an insulator and also prevents air getting to whatever it is insulating and causing oxidisation (as a conductor oxidizes the resistance will rise and the performance of the cable will drop). A final point about Teflon® is that it is difficult to produce and use compared to other insulators so the price is somewhat higher. Silver Siren's jacket is made from a soft PVC with excellent mechanical damping properties

Terminations

Primarily fitted with RCA plugs - this time with silver plated contact pins and shields. These are fitted to give a single material signal path. Silver plated conductors, silver solder and silver plated plug contacts are used.

How does it sound?

Silver Siren sounds more detailed than the Cobra 3 and allows fine ambient detail to be heard. The treble in particular is noticeably more detailed. When silver plated cables were first used they gained a reputation for being overly pronounced in the bass and too bright in the treble (all boom and tizz). This had far more to do with the insulator used than the silver itself and as long as Teflon® is used, silver cables can be made to sound extremely well balanced. The single material signal path was developed following experimentation and blind testing and despite the fact that common wisdom would have it that the gold plated sockets found on the back of equipment should be matched with gold plugs, the silver plugs do produce a better sound.
