Luxman releases the new D-38u CD player in a traditional wooden case. The D-38u is a digital player designed specifically for playing CDs. It comes in a classical square wooden case and is equipped with musically outstanding digital + analog circuits for reproducing high-quality sound sources. This product matches the SQ-38u vacuum tube pre-main amplifier rated highly by long-time audio fans for its attractive vacuum tube sound. At the same time, it is ideal for combining with any of the many components of the wooden case amplifier series that continues to enjoy high popularity. In addition to the Burr-Brown 192KHz/24bit compatible PCM1754 D/A converter, the circuitry includes a high-purity semiconductor output provided by low-noise solid state circuitry, an enchanting vacuum tube output to which a moderate harmonic component is added by means of a cathode follower circuit implemented by ECC82 (12AU7) vacuum tubes, and an output changeover switch that allows switching between these circuits. The D-38u, the first in a series of CD players bearing the Luxman legacy golden number, “38”, combines warm sound quality with expandability and the sophisticated functions expected of a new model, such as headphone jack and digital output.
•The 16-mm MDF was combined with a square case made of natural wood veneer to enhance the overall rigidity of the product (same width of 400 mm as the SQ-38u vacuum tube pre-main amplifier).
• The front panel, which together with the case makes up the chassis, consists of an 8 mm thick hairline-finished aluminum board to lend the unit a rigid and vigorous appearance.
• The unit’s circuitry is designed specifically for playing CDs, and a left-hand mechanism layout was adopted for an ideal flow of power supply and audio signals (the same concept as underlying the SACD compliant D08/06/05 Digital Player).
• The drive mechanism is supported on a 15 mm thick base plate made of pure aluminum for added stability in reading digital data.
• The D/A converter uses a PCM1754 Burr-Brown chip compatible with 192KHz/24bit.
• You can switch between the semiconductor output implemented as an IC amplifier with low-noise components and the cathode follower output in the form of ECC82 (12AU7) vacuum tubes to accommodate to your taste. (The vacuum tube lamp lights when
the vacuum tube output is selected/output switching while playing a CD is also possible.)
• The headphone output amplifies the signal after switching the semiconductor/vacuum tube circuits.
• The large FL display is provided with a 3-stage dimmer function (brightness adjustment).
• Externally the unit offers a number of ingrained Luxman features, such as the power ring indicator, which you could say is the identity of the 38 series, and the up/down lever switch.
• The supplied aluminum remote control with wooden border allows you to perform all operations from your listening position. (It also adjusts the volume of the SQ-38u vacuum tube pre-main amplifier.)
• The vacuum tube components are basically designed to be serviceable for a long time, carefully selected after 24-hour aging, and finally integrated into the product.
